Today, as part of our ongoing series of interviews, we are going on a trip to the Baltics, to virtually meet our listed testing body Inspectorate Estonia AS. It is a pleasure to hear from their representative – Mr. Roman Levitski.

 Hello Roman, what should we know about your laboratory?

The core objective of Inspectorate’s global business is minimizing risk through independent inspection, consultancy, analysis and testing.

In the Baltics, it all started in 1996 when first inspections were performed by the Inspectorate employees. Nowadays, we are more than 150 specialists involved in biofuel, oil, fertilisers, grain, metals and minerals inspections in the Baltic States. The inspection service includes many different product lines: from Tally Count to Complex chemical and Physical analysis under national accreditation.

Inspectorate Estonia AS is a listed ENplus® testing body. Based on your observations, has the demand for verifying pellet quality increased in the past few years?

For sure, we see an increasing demand for verifying pellet quality in the last few years. Undoubtedly, our involvement has been also significantly increased, and it is fair to say that implementing tests for ENplus® is part of our daily routine now.

When it comes to the ENplus® certification, companies from which countries are looking for the services of your organization?

Most of our customers are from the Baltics. However, we do perform regular inspections for global clients from all over the world.

How do you assess the Estonian market – do consumers consider pellets for a good heating solution? Do they opt for it or still stick to more traditional options such as electricity and gas?

In Estonia, still, most households consider traditional options such as gas and electricity as the most common solution. However, the pellets are already used by some customers and are perceived as a good green alternative in comparison to the traditional solutions, especially, in the light of the energetic crisis in Europe this winter.

In your opinion, does quality certification such as ENplus® have an impact on the local consumers’ behavior?

Even though the ENplus® certification has been adopted and successfully applied for several years by traders, producers, etc., the consumers are not fully aware of the requirements for quality it covers and the benefits it brings.
